ANA Enterprise

YEAR
OF THE NURSE

The World Health Organization designated 2020 the Year of the Nurse to coincide with Florence Nightingale’s 200th birthday. (The designation was later extended to 2021.)

As the largest and strongest voice representing the four-million-plus registered nurses in the United States, the ANA Enterprise wanted to create a multi-faceted celebration in recognition of the most trusted profession.

Because this was initially planned as a year-long celebration, they needed a destination for nurses that would allow them to easily see new and ongoing activities that would keep them engaged and excited throughout 2020.

We defined the tone by giving nurses
the opportunity to share their stories
and photographs through the website.

The Year of the Nurse website became an interactive hub for nurses to visit to learn about events, to access resources and webinars, and to participate in other activities developed by the many groups of the ANA Enterprise. This campaign was about nurses and their accomplishments. By updating social media posts and emails and creating new content and campaign-specific collateral, we defined the tone by giving nurses the opportunity to share their stories and photographs through the website. We used these stories and images as the basis of our messaging.

When we started this campaign in 2019, months before launch, little did we know that a pandemic would upend the world and significantly alter the lives of our audience. By creating a campaign that was defined by the stories told by nurses, we were able to continuously create supporting content that redefined the Year of the Nurse from a celebration to real-time examples of why nursing is an honored and trusted profession.
